How to get here

National Rail
Trains run on a circular route from London Waterloo to Strawberry Hill, with 4 trains per hour Monday-Saturday and 2 trains per hour on Sundays. The station is 5 to 10 minutes walk from the house, as signposted at the end of each platform.

London Underground
Take the District Line westbound to Richmond.  From there catch the 33 towards Fulwell or the R68 towards Hampton Court and alight at Popes Grotto.

Bus
33 or R68 from Richmond station. These buses travel past Richmond Bus Station and Twickenham town centre towards Strawberry Hill House. Alight at Popes Grotto.

Car
Strawberry Hill House & Gardens has its own free car park with limited spaces available to visitors. Parking may not be available during particularly busy periods and we cannot reserve spaces so public transport is recommended.

There are five ‘Blue Badge’ disabled parking spaces.
Our postcode is TW1 4ST for satellite navigation systems.

Visitors are advised to seek alternative parking once our car park is full. There are a number of pay and display car parks within Twickenham Town Centre, approximately 15-20 minutes walk, most direct route via Cross Deep and Waldegrave Road.

In addition, there are some roads within walking distance which don’t currently have parking controls.

On Foot

The House is approximately 15 minutes from Twickenham town centre, 50 minutes from Richmond town centre and 2 hours from Hampton Court Palace along the Thames Path.

Bike

There are good cycling routes linking Strawberry Hill to Kingston, Hampton Court, Richmond and Twickenham.

Bike racks are available in the car park. Please bring a bike chain

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

On arrival
Please have your ticket with you – either printed or on your phone. If you are buying tickets for others, please ensure they know the name their ticket is under.

Cloakroom
We do not have a cloakroom in the House, but we do have lockers next to the Car Park. Due to the fragile nature of the House, we kindly ask that visitors do not bring large bags into the House.

Buggy Park
Buggies are not permitted in the House, but can be parked in our front of house area or in our onside buggy park, located at the entrance of the House.

ACCESSIBILITY

House & Garden Accessibility

We want everyone who visits Strawberry Hill to enjoy their experience. Visitors who require additional assistance can either speak to a member of staff when they arrive at the House or notify the team in advance.

Accessing the Grounds

The Garden and Café are wheelchair accessible via a smooth path without steps. Access across the garden is over the lawn which can be a little uneven underfoot.

Access in the House

Inside the House the ground floor is completely accessible, and a lift gives access to the first floor, where the majority of our rooms are located. If you require use of the lift, please speak to a member of our team who would be happy to help.

Unfortunately, the lift does not give access to the second floor and therefore three rooms are inaccessible by wheelchair: the Library, Horace Walpole’s Bedchamber, and the Plaid Bedchamber.

However, the Strawberry Hill House app is available to view, showcasing all the rooms through a virtual tour and our room stewards are on hand to answer any questions about the app or the rooms. The app is also available to download on the Google Play store and the App Store.

Assistance Dogs

Strawberry Hill understands that some visitors to the House will require the support of an assistance dog and we are happy to admit appropriately trained assistance dogs into the House.

Blue Badge Parking

There are five blue badge parking spaces in our car park. We also offer a blue badge holder discount and carers gain free entry on general admission tickets.

Large print Interpretation

There are large print interpretation on each of our rooms in the room folders, which our room stewards are on hand to help with.

Mobility aids

There is a wheelchair available at the front of the House entrance. Chairs are also situated in many of the rooms, please ask a member of staff for assistance.

Dementia Friendly Site

Our staff and volunteers have been trained to ensure that Strawberry Hill House is a dementia friendly site.

Assistance in the House

Watch our short film to learn more about accessibility routes and support during your visit.
