George de Voil, choir master
George de Voil is an experienced choral director, teacher and organist based in South West London. Until recently, George was also Director of Chapel Music and Head of Singing at Wellington College, where he ran a highly successful organ department and an accomplished Chapel Choir. He now combines a full-time position on the staff of King’s College School, Wimbledon, with the post of Director of Music at St James’s Church, Sussex Gardens, in Paddington.
After holding music and choral scholarships at the London Oratory School, George took up the Organ Scholarship at Exeter College, Oxford, gaining a First Class degree in Music, and directing the musical celebrations for Exeter College’s 700th Anniversary. As a choral conductor, his world premiere recording of Stanford’s Mass in G, with Parry’s Songs of Farewell, won him many plaudits. George has broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4, and Classic FM, and has given organ concerts at Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, and many other important venues in the UK and abroad. His organ recordings are available to view on the Wellington College YouTube channel.
