Since our founding in 2000, the Friends have campaigned tirelessly to safeguard Strawberry Hill and it is with great pride that we have seen the result of our hard work since opening.

We are fortunate to have received grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund for much of the work and are extremely grateful for the continuing generosity of Trusts and individual donors; however, Strawberry Hill receives no government subsidy and is independent from larger bodies such as English Heritage or the National Trust. The Friends’ valuable contribution is, therefore, critical in ensuring that the House continues to flourish.

There is still much to do; a further five rooms are to be restored, the restoration of the garden has yet to be completed and we need to research the whereabouts of much of Walpole’s extensive collection which was dispersed in the 19th century and to return at least some of it to the house.
